Getting here

If you're looking for things to do in the Poconos, a visit to our lovely town should be top of your list! Jim Thorpe is nestled among the mountains of Carbon County, in the valley of the Mauch Chunk Creek, a tributary of the Lehigh River. Situated within 2 hours of New York City, Philadelphia, and most of New Jersey, the town has been a tourist destination since the late 1800s. The Victorians arrived at this remote mountain village via train, however, modern visitors are faced with the challenge of finding a place to park their cars. Here's a few thoughts to consider as you plan your trip to Jim Thorpe:

Where to park - There is limited on-street paid parking on the first block or two of Broadway. Paid parking is enforced until 6pm every day of the week. It is worth a cruise past to see if you are lucky enough to stumble upon an open spot. If you find a spot, proceed to the nearest kiosk or look for signs and text to pay.

Parking on Broadway beyond the first couple blocks is unavailable as this is a residential area with parking by permit only.

If there are no spots open below the Opera House (intersection of Broadway with Race St. and Hill Rd.), head back toward Route 209 and the train station. At the stoplight intersection of Broadway and 209 (aka Susquehanna St.), either A) turn right and then immediately left to park in the lot next to the Josiah White Park gazebo (or look for on street parking in that vicinity) for more kiosk paid parking or B) proceed straight, bear left and look for the entrance to the paid County-owned parking lot almost immediately on your right.

Bike in - Park for free in Lehighton (at one of two trail heads) and bike 4 miles up the D&L Trail to Jim Thorpe.

Other possibilities - Park and ride the trolley into town or take the train to Jim Thorpe from other destinations such as Pittston, Reading, Port Clinton, or Tamaqua.
